The nation’s best known and most powerful Democrats for nearly two decades, the former first couple is getting used to a new role: cheerleaders for Obama, who vanquished Hillary Clinton last spring in a Democratic primary contest for the ages. Whatever recriminations the Clintons may still harbor from that long battle seem to have been nudged aside as they campaign in earnest for the Democratic ticket. Who Will Write This Year's 'Making of the President'? [Books]
Honestly? We'd rather read a book-length history of the Hillary Clinton campaign written by Josh Green than read another word about McCain and Obama. But let's take a look at the people currently working on their own novelistic takes on the waking nightmare that has been 2008 thus far! The Observer reports on the contenders: Michael Takiff, on oral historian. He's writing a Bill Clinton biography (though maybe it's been shelved). He's a Nation-contributing lefty, who once also tried to write a book about

Oprah Rallies Women For Obama Downtown

Hillary Clinton: Palin "Composed, Effective" During Debate
Hillary Clinton is weighing in on Thursday's vice presidential debate. In a phone interview Friday on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show, she said, "[Democratic Sen.] Joe Biden was great. He put forward a flawless performance. I, like probably everybody else watching, was so moved by the authentic grief that caught in his throat when he talked about his own personal experience." (During the debate, Biden got choked up while recalling a car accident that killed his wife and daughter and injured his sons.)

Hillary Clinton Bests Sarah Palin (in Poll)
It doesn't really matter, since neither is running for President, but a poll of 600 women nationwide found that female voters think Hillary Clinton is a "better mom, role model and leader" than vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Some stats: 61% prefer Clinton to Palin (27%) if the two women ran against each other in 2012 and 35% think Clinton is a better mother than Palin (24%). Pollster Mickey Blum explains to the Daily News, "Palin appeals to a much smaller group." And while the vice-presidenti

Clinton, Paterson on Term Limits
While Governor David Paterson and Senator Hillary Clinton were on hand to honor ten fallen firefighters from across the state (including four from NYC) at a ceremony in Albany, naturally the two lawmakers were asked about term limits. According to the Times Union's Capitol Confidential, Paterson said, "I don't really have an opinion on term limits," (aside from loving the idea of a third Bloomberg term) but added, "What we've got to be in government is consistent." And Clinton "said she agrees with her g

McCain to Biden: Too early to celebrate
In response to a Joe Biden email telling supporters that the “McCain campaign is on the ropes,” the McCain camp responded that it is too early to celebrate. “Being an underdog is a role that John McCain relishes and with 26 days left I don’t think Joe Biden should pop the champagne just yet,” said McCain spokesman Ben Porritt. “We are confident that as people make their decisions they will choose John McCain, a maverick with a real record over Barack Obama —an unknown comm

It's Been Much Too Long
La Pequeña has returned to us! I was beginning to think she fell down the toilet or was eaten by a house cat or something. Thankfully, none of those things happened, so she was able to give us this amazing video. La Pequena Hillary Clinton is back and this time she's pissed at America for not giving her the nomination! She's so fucking angry that she's turned into La Pequeña Hillary Hulk! She's like a cute, tiny, grouchy pickle person! This is what the real Hillary probably looks like when she tries to p

Sarah Palin = Star Wars, Hillary Clinton = Star Trek [Political Science (fiction)]
The Republicans tried to replace Hillary Clinton in the hearts of millions of women voters by giving us Sarah Palin as John McCain's running mate. But Palin hasn't quite proved to be the perfect Hillary replacement. Could it be their differing policies? Nah. It's really the fact that Hillary is totally Star Trek, while Sarah is 100 percent Star Wars. And there's no substituting between those two things. Conclusive proof below. Hillary is technobabble, Sarah is The Force. Ask Hillary how she plans to refor

The Next “Dick” Cheney???
Ahhhhhhh ha ha ha ha ha ha! I crack myself up sometimes, you guys. A reader sent in this old-school pic of possible VP Joe Biden, which showcases what he has to offer to, um, our country. Love it, love it, love it. Sarah Palin may be all about Joe Six-Pack, but I for one would be happy [...]

Sarah Palin: Obama Has "Left Behind Even The Middle Ground When It Comes To The Issue Of Life" [Roe Vs. World]
Behind in the polls and perhaps looking for a way to connect with voters without resorting to Barack Obama "is palling around a terrorist" speech she gave last week, Gov. Sarah Palin has shifted her focus to abortion, referring to Senator Obama as a "radical" who has "left behind even the middle ground when it comes to the issue of life" at a rally in Jonestown, PA yesterday. "In times like these with wars and financial crisis, I know that it may be easy to forget even as deep and abiding a concern as the r

Hair Of The Demagogue: Getting Your Sarah (Or Michelle, Cindy Or Hillary) On [What Not To Do]
InStyle Magazine has a section of its website dedicated to "Hollywood Hair Makeovers" — you upload your picture, pick your hair and shudder in horror. An alert tipster sent our way a link to the newest options, which involves Sarah Palin, Cindy McCain, Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama. Luckily, one of us (me) has a collection of candidate pictures on her hard drive and a (small) amount of time on her hands. So, afte

'SNL' Will Have Its Reward In Heaven After This Sarah Palin Debate Skit [Third Term In Office]
With less than a month left to go in this presidential election, Saturday Night Live expands its resurgent political brand into special Thursday episodes starting this week, though it's hard to see how they could possibly outdo the trilogy of Tina Fey-as-Sarah Palin appearances that continued into last night's episode. Spoofing the mega-rated vice presidential debate, Fey joined Jason Sudeikis as Joe Biden and the previously-rumored Queen Latifah as moderator Gwen Ifill for a blockbuster, near-twelve minute

Everyone in Politics Going Crazy!!!!!!!
First up, a clip of a baffling, career-ending gaffe at a Joe Biden event in Tampa, followed by footage from a Pennsylvanian McCain-Palin rally, in which the Republican nominee for president makes one of the most chilling and revealing verbal missteps we've ever heard. Doggone It, Sarah Palin Wants an 'SNL' Cameo Of Her Own [Winking At Oneself]
Appearing in the flesh on Saturday Night Live is a time-honored ritual for many political names, including the three biggest of this past election cycle: Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have both put in cold opening cameos, while John McCain actually hosted SNL in 2002. Still, for all the mileage that the show has wrung out of Sarah Palin's vice presidential candidacy, Palin herself has yet to appear on the show — though according to the Chicago Sun Times, that may change very soon. In fact, sources

Obama’s middle name - not in the talking points!
It’s a war of words.  Whether it is Sarah Palin’s overuse of the word “maverick,” John McCain’s anguish-inducing repetition of “my friends,” or the gaffe-laden potpourri emanating from Joe Biden, the words candidates say are always under the microscope. Surrogates and supporters do best when they act like parrots – mimicking talking points rather than expressing a thought of their own. And actually, that’s fair. You don’t vote for spokespeople.
