Miller's Spirit Disappoints
Ever since I saw early footage of Frank Miller's The Spirit at Comic-Con, I've been underwhelmed by the materials on the movie, which I haven't had a chance to see. Justin Chang delivers a pan. Miller may work best with directors like Zack Snyder and Robert Rodriguez who are executing his vision. Miller has been writing a follow-up for Snyder to 300. And I can't wait to see Sin City 2, if it ever gets made. Last time I spoke to Rodriguez, he said it was not on the front burner at Weinstein Co. My Comic-Con

The Spirit Is With Los Angeles
Actresses Eva Mendes, Scarlett Johansson, Paz Vega, Jaime King, Seychelle Gabriel and Jacinda Barrett were joined by leading men Samuel Jackson and Gabriel Macht to celebrate The Spirit. Directed by Frank Miller (remember Sin City?) through inspiration from a masterful comic-book series by Will Eisner, this Lionsgate's production tells the story of otherworldly hero Denny Colt. Colt, played by Macht, is a murdered rookie cop who returns to life as the Spirit.  Righteously pissed at the

Here’s another new trailer for Frank Miller’s The Spirit. This one actually made the movie look a lot more interesting to me.  Source: Cinema Blend

New Spirit Trailer Is Tiny Beacon Of Light In A Sin City World [The Spirit]
newVideoPlayer("/thespiritnew_io9.flv", 445, 247,""); Frank Miller's The Spirit has a new trailer out - And it's mountains better than the previous acid-trip take. We've talked enough about how this is a bad Sin City remake of The Spirit, but for the first time, in this trailer Miller is presenting a vision of the movie that straddles both the campy and the dark without leaning too heavy on either side. Should there should be this much drama in a movie about The Spirit? Probably not but, at least from this

Samuel L. Jackson Did His Own Makeup In The Spirit [The Spirit]
Director Frank Miller rewrote the Spirit script to accommodate ScarJo and let Samuel Jackson improvise — and even reinvent his character's look. We met the director and cast, and learned just how much they collaborated.Letting Frank Miller gallop across The Spirit film set unedited opened the doors for the actors to do so as well. In a press conference for his newly released film The Spirit Miller described how one should adapt a comic to film: As far as what translates from comics to film, I find that th

Comic-book fans bring out 'Spirit'
If you ask nicely, resident movie mean guy Samuel L. Jackson will tick off a laundry list of comic books he loved as a kid, and sometimes, still reads. "Superman, Batman, The Flash, Aquaman, Silver Surfer, you know, the ordinary," said the actor, who stars in the upcoming The Spirit, which premiered Wednesday night.. Opening Christmas Day, it stars Eva Mendes, Sarah Paulson, Scarlett Johansson and Gabriel Macht. Jackson plays his nemesis, The Octopus. "It's pure boy stuff," Jackson said of

Henry Barnes: Scarlett Johansson is selling an old tissue on eBay
Last year Samuel L Jackson caught The Cold. It took a supporting role in his respiratory system and (like Sam before it) diligently worked its way up, before making its jump for the big time and leaping into a glamorous star vehicle – one Scarlett Johansson. The Cold made its move when Scarlett and Sam worked together on Frank Miller's comic book adaptation The Spirit. "Me and Sam did some good, fluid work together," The Cold told AP, speaking from its new home, a used tissue high in Johansso

One of the hottest threesomes in Hollywood - Eva Mendes, Scarlett Johansson, and Jaime King - showed up to the Spirit premiere in LA yesterday, and why should that lucky bastard Gabriel Macht (aka the Spirit himself) have all the fun? Enjoy these pictures fellas, because from what I’ve been hearing about the movie, you’re currently looking at the best part. Even more pictures of the three after the jump.

Top Fox Exec Talks Daredevil Reboot
The guys over at IESB were recently chatting with 20th Century Fox co-chairman, Tim Rothman, and got him to open up about the Daredevil reboot, a project which was proposed earlier this year at Comic Con by Sin City creator Frank Miller and British action star Jason Statham. According to Rothman, Miller and Statham weren’t just doing some out-loud wishful thinking: a Daredevil reboot is something Fox would definitely be interested in–so long as they could snag a director who would be able to do

Steven De Souza Reflects On His 1987 ‘The Spirit’ TV Pilot And Frank Miller’s Take
Sure, everyone’s been talking about Frank Miller’s “The Spirit,” but this isn’t the first time Will Eisner’s classic character has taken a turn in the live-action medium. Way back in 1987, screenwriter Steven de Souza was fresh off a pair of genre-defining hits with “48 Hours” and “Commando.” Just before undertaking the project that would become one of his best-known films, “Die Hard,” de Souza wrote and produced a television pilot ba

Mark Millar’s War Heroes Headed to Big Screen
Warren Ellis is probably the best comic book writer around these days, right up there with Frank Miller, although the two men have two vastly different styles, and belong in completely different comic book universes. I don’t know who comes a close third, but maybe Brian Michael Bendis or Garth Ennis. And then there’s Mark Millar, who can be downright brilliant at times (his run on “The Ultimates” was inspiring), but also capable of producing some really Godawful stuff. Consider his l

The Spirit Trailer #2
Just when I was starting to think “The Spirit” couldn’t possibly look any worse than it already does, along comes the new trailer that have sunk my expectations about 3 floors below the basement. What is starting to materialize is what many of us have suspected all along… Frank Miller shouldn’t be directing. At least not a movie of this scale and at least not yet. Behold more of the evidence. The trailer was already abysmal, and then came that damn line “I’m
