Ben Affleck to Write, Direct and Star in The Town

/Film - 15th Sep 2008

Ben Affleck: Warner Bros has hired Ben Affleck to rewrite, direct and star in a big screen adaptation of the Chuck Hogan novel The Prince of Thieves. The film adaptation will be released under the title The Town. The project was originally set up with Unfaithful director Adrian Lyne. Affleck will do a rewrite on the latest screenplay draft which was co-authored by Peter Craig and Chuck Hogan. Affleck will play a career thief who falls in love with the manager of a bank he robbed. The film is set in Charlestown, MA, which might further explain Affleck’s interest/involvement. I, like many others, was extremely impressed by Affleck’s directorial debut Gone Baby Gone. And you can’t forget that he also won an academy award for co-writing t Read full story at /Film

Ben Affleck to write and direct “The Town”
I thought Ben Affleck did a great job directing ‘Gone baby Gone’. He has a good talent there that I was hoping he would work on. I think he is much better behind the camera than in front. I gained a whole new respect for him as an artist when I saw ‘Gone Baby Gone’. So Warner Bros. has brought him in to write, direct, and star in a movie called ‘The Town’ which is based on a novel called ‘The Prince of Thieves’. Huh? Why didn’t they use that title? Varie

Affleck to direct and star in Town
There's no argument, Ben Affleck is far better behind the camera than in front. With Gone Baby Gone he proved himself to be a superb director and hopes are high for his next directorial work. So the news that he is going to write, direct and star in a film called The Town has a mixed reception from me. Excited because he's going to be writing and directing, but far from excited that he's going to be acting. The film is adapted from the Chuck Hogan novel The Prince of Thieve

It looks like once Ben Affleck cleans up the not-so-sexy straggly, shaggy-man look for Extract, he's going to town. The Hollywood Reporter posts that he's in negotiations to write, direct, and star in The Town -- a romance/heist flick. It's about a gal bank manager who has her heart broken by a thief "who stole more than her heart" and an FBI agent trying to bust him. Yes, more bad guy allure versus good guy aggravation, I'm sure.
