BRAZIL DOUBLE-TAKE: Barack Obama's on the ballot there too!
*With Barack Obama on the ballot in at least eight local elections in Brazil, you might think the Democratic presidential candidate is keeping his options open in case John McCain winds up in the White House.      Not at all. Due to a quirk in Brazilian electoral law, candidates can put any name they want on the ballot, as long as it isn't offensive. In the all-important Real Clear Politics average (which averages national polling), Obama has regained a lead of 1.7%. McCain had held as much as a 3% national lead over the last week. At the height of Obama's convention bounce he held a respectable 6% lead. Whether or not McCain's bounce faded naturally, is the result of the continuing horrible economic news, or is because of Obama's freshly

Obama and the 40-Year-Old Virgin
Regrettably but predictably, the success of Barack Obama has revived traditional knee-jerk racism on the American far right – and the latest examples are more blatant than latent. In Michigan, right-wing operatives are seeking to aggravate white Democrats by linking Obama to Kwame Kilpatrick, the disgraced mayor of Detroit who leaves office today in a deal with prosecutors that included pleading guilty to two felony charges of obstructing justice. A brief clip of Obama praising Kilpatrick last year, lo

What John McCain and Barack Obama are buying on Google [Politics]
Google is the modern American voter's oracle, able to provide an answer — perhaps not always the correct one, but always an answer — to almost any question. And it's very important to both presidential campaigns that Google show links to their websites as the answers, a privilege for which they're willing to pay. Both the McCain and Obama teams buy sponsored links on the search terms they believe voters are likely to use. Hitwise, a Web research firm, helped us dig up the campaigns' most-used se

The separate, 20-minute pieces will mix profile material with a snapshot of a moment in the campaign. Typically, “60 Minutes” segments are far shorter with longer lead times. “The beauty of being able to do t

Bill Clinton: Obama rides 'change' wave
The crisis on Wall Street could be helping Democrat Barack Obama regain some momentum in his race with Republican John McCain. So says Bill Clinton, the former president who presided over some good times. "The latest polls had Senator Obama up a little bit,'' Clinton said in an interview with Maria Bartiromo on CNBC's Closing Bell. "I think partly that's a function of the current distress, economic distress because I think the more people worry about the current set of circumstances, the more likely they

Maybe LiLo is just too upstanding for Barack Obama.&

Barack Obama Graciously Turns Down Lindsay Lohan's Offer of Support [Politics]
Actress Lindsay Lohan, so politically outspoken these days, recently lobbied some criticism, once again on her MySpace page, against Sarah Palin—the Alaskan warrior poet who, just in the nick of time, stopped a confused John McCain from wandering into a cave full of bears and was named his Vice Presidential running mate as thanks. She said that Palin hates gays ("media-obsessed homophobe!") and that that is bad. And now she wants to join the cause and drum up support for Barack Obama! Trouble is, O

McCain: McCain on Spain’s Zapatero gaffe
It is hilarious and typical of potential Presidents who rarely travel outside US and profess knowledge of foreign policy. President McCain and the Soul of the Republican Party
There’s a cliché that can aptly be applied to the Republicans and their unexpectedly decent odds for winning the presidential race: Be careful what you wish for. Since World War II, a basic pattern has prevailed, with one party controlling the White House for two terms, followed by the other. In the modern era, eight years seems to be about all the patience voters have with one party calling the shots. This is one of the many reasons why 2008 set up so poorly for the G.O.P., and why it’s been somethin

The Donald Thinks Obama Should Have Picked Hillary
Since we all know Donald Trump secretly hopes to run for President one day, it’s only fair that we start caring about his political opinions now. Trump will be voting for McCain — because he thinks Obama fucked everything up by picking Biden as his running mate. “I know John McCain, and John McCain’s a great guy, a tremendous guy. I’ve known him for a long time. And I’m with him, and I’m with him based on the fact that I have great knowledge of John McCain …
