Bad Buzz for 'Creation'; 'Antichrist' & Almodovar Try to Salvage Toronto Opening Nite - ''Creation' was DOA tonight,' proclaimed Anne Thompson, calling the opening night film at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, 'Flat, dull, and p...
-Agora' trailer: VIDEO
In yesterday’s inaugural edition of Oscar Talk, Kris and Anne Thompson discussed the bad buzz swirling around Alejandro Amenabar’s Rachel Weisz-starring historical epic “Agora,” which has been fruitlessly seeking a distributor since premiering at Cannes in May — and will continue the hunt at Toronto. Right on cue, here comes the trailer, and … let’s just say that Anne’s prediction of a “noble failure folly” looks ominously on-target....
OSCAR TALK: Ep. 1
Welcome to the first installment of Oscar Talk, a (hopefully) weekly podcast between myself and Anne Thompson, newly of indieWIRE .

It Will Cost You to Find Out An upstate New York daily newspaper starts charging for content and it will cost you to find out why. Speedcine Launches in Beta
The whole landscape of filmviewing has changed radically recently, to the extent that you don't have to leave the comfort of your sofa in order to watch countless diverse movies. Via Anne Thompson of Thompson on Hollywood comes news of an invaluable tool in home moviewatching called Speedcine , a search engine which has a database of all movies available to watch legally on the internet. The site is the brainchild of NYC-based blogger and publicist Reid Rosefelt. Here's an extract from the press...
Gold Derby nuggets: Mo'Nique makes 'Precious' friends | Oscar hopes for 'Amelia' in a tailspin | 'Avatar' trailer kicks off during NFL game
• Anne Thompson ( Thompson ON HOLLYWOOD ) and Sasha Stone ( AWARDS DAILY ) both rally to the defense of "Precious" star Mo'Nique, who has been MIA from many of the media events for this indie film. Reports Anne, "The actress will fly in from Atlanta for the L.A. premiere at AFI Fest, where she'll do select press and multiple TV bookings." She then wonders, "Will the SAG and Academy actors give her a shot if she doesn't work the guild Q & As? I'd like to...
Uniquely Mo'Nique
I don’t get this thing about Mo’Nique hurting her Oscar chances by not upping her profile. I really don’t like the negativity floating around about her — based on what?
-Star Trek,'-White Ribbon' round out Hollywood Film Awards
The publicity stunt that is the Hollywood Film Awards came and went last night.
Martin & Baldwin to host Oscars: VIDEO
Sometimes a story is just simple enough for a blogger with no time and a brain full of mush from a long day of nonwriting related mishegas. So, courtesy of Anne Thompson and THR , comes the news that this year’s Oscar hosts will be Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. Do I think this will be good? Well, I’ve always thought Martin was the funniest, classiest host in my entire lifetime of Oscar watching. And, like pretty much everyone else on the planet, I laugh pretty much just looking at...
French trailer for -A Prophet': VIDEO
I love it. Kris loves it. Anne Thompson loves it. And hey, Anjelica Huston loves it too. If you’re a little curious as to what the fuss is about, here is a subtitle-free glimpse of Jacques Audiard’s “A Prophet,” handily the finest foreign-language Oscar contender I’ve seen so far. (Not that I’ve seen many. But this’ll take some beating.) Related Posts
