Defense leads to offense as Nanooks end losing streak against Irish
Saturday night's third-period rally against ninth-ranked Notre Dame was an excellent example of the Alaska Nanooks' defense fueling its offense. Controlling play in the neutral zone in the third helped the 13th-ranked Nanooks prevail 3-1 over the Fighting Irish for a split of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association series at the Carlson Center. The win also marked the end of an 11-game winless streak (0-10-1) against Notre Dame. The Nanooks coaches have emphasized tough neutral zone...

Levi Johnston, 19, is the father of 10-month-old baby Tripp with his ex-girlfriend Bristol Palin , also 19, the eldest daughter of the former Alaska chief executive. The two were engaged to be married, at least according to her mom's publicist, during last year's campaign, but...
Palin Gives New Life to 'Death Panels'
--> ABC News' Rick Klein reports: Sarah Palin is bringing "death panels" back to life. Three months after creating a firestorm with a widely debunked claim that President Obama's plans could leave her son with Down Syndrome's fate decided by a "death panel," Palin is again raising the specter of "death panels" in arguing against Democrats' Health Care plans. In a posting on her Facebook page late Saturday, Palin, R-Alaska, said the fact that the House...
Plenty -- By: John J. Miller: PHOTO
Wash Post : Minnesota Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty, after making a series of smart strategic moves over the past few months in advance of an expected run for president in 2012, has struggled on the national stage in the past few weeks. First, Pawlenty waded into a special congressional election in upstate New York on behalf of Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman — a move that came directly on the heels of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's decision to endorse Hoffman over Dede...
Sarah Palin Disturbed by Coins
The U.S. Mint is not keeping God where Sarah Palin does—close to her heart—and she’s miffed about it. Politico snuck a reporter into Palin’s off-the-record speech to the Wisconsin Right to Life group on Friday night, and found the former Governor of Alaska floating some weird theories about the latest design of American coins. Complaining that there had been a lot of “change” as of late, she wondered why the phrase “In God We Trust” has been moved...

Egg harvest the beginning of Kenai students' salmon education
KENAI, Alaska - Three years ago Brittany Gilman knew three things about salmon. "All I knew back then was that salmon are fish. You eat them and you catch them," said the fourth-grader at Kaleidoscope School of Arts Science in Kenai. Gilman, along with her classmates from Dave Knudsen's class, were participating in the Department of Fish and Game's Salmon Egg-Take in Anchor Point last month. Each year Fish and Game kicks off its Salmonids in the Classroom Program with the egg takes, and a number...

The Democratic president will speak to Troops before Air Force One heads to Tokyo for his first Asia trip. U.S. Sen....
Wild Texas: the critters of the Lone Star State: PHOTO
When it comes to viewing wildlife in the U.S., most people naturally gravitate to the western part of the country, where you'll find a wide variety of species in abundance. Places like Colorado, Idaho, Montana, and of course Alaska, have great reputations for offering travelers an opportunity to see a large number of animals in their natural habitat. One place that doesn't garner this kind of attention however, is Texas, despite a surprising array of creatures within the state. Most visitors to...

Delta, two other carriers lag as airlines boost on-time arrivals in September
The nation's Airlines are offering fewer flights, but at least they're more likely to arrive on time. The government said Monday that 86.2 percent of flights operated in September were on time. That marked an improvement over August and over September 2008. The best on-time records were posted by Hawaiian, Alaska Airlines and Southwest. The worst at getting you there on time -- Atlantic Southeast Airlines, Comair and Delta. The government counts a flight as on-time if it arrives within 15...
