John Carpenter: Some remake announcements I just shrug off, some I get excited for, and then some just plain get under my skin. While I am a remake enthusiast, there are some films I consider untouchable, and if a studio is going to remake a film all I ask is that it's different. Universal did throw us a pretty damn good remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD, so maybe a remake of John Carpenter's They Live won't be all that bad? Besides, Zack Snyder's Strike Entertainment is getting involved, which can only mean good things (right?). The story also confirms that Strike is also still planning on remaking THE THING (1982), which is a remake of THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD (1951). Read on for the story and chime in on your thoughts below. "They Live" is finding life again.

John Carpenter's cult 1988 film is getting the remake treatment from Universal and studio-based Strike Entertainment, which are in negotiations to acquire the film rights with rights holder Les Mougins.

Strike's Marc Abraham and Eric Newman will produce, while Shep Gordon of Les Mougins and Carpenter will serve as executive producers.

The original film, part sci-fi thriller and part social satire, told the story of a down-on-his-luck construction worker (Roddy Piper) who discovers glasses that let him see aliens walking among us and controlling humanity. The man races against the clock to find a way to stop them.

The movie is known for a fight scene that lasts 51⁄22 minutes (watch it below) and for the line Read full story at www.bloody-disgusting.com

John Carpenter’s They Live Gets a Remake
I have come here to chew bubblegum and remake movies… and I’m all out of bubblegum. Will John Carpenter be the first director to have his entire filmography remade — while he is still alive, no less? It certainly looks that way. With Halloween, The Fog and Assault on Precinct 13 all getting updates over the past few years, and new versions of Escape from New York and The Thing also supposedly in development, now we have yet another one to add to the list: They Live starring Rowdy Roddy Pip

"The Thing" Remake in the Works
Roush spoke with director Marc Abraham, whose new movie, Flash of Genius, will be in theaters Oct. 17, 2008. A future project of Abraham’s is producing a remake of the 1982 horror classic John Carpenter’s The Thing, about a shape-shifting alien that’s revived after being frozen in ice. Abraham revealed that the movie would be “more of a prequel than a sequel,” and would chronicle the events leading up to the 1982 film. This is big news for John Carpenter fans, who — l

Exclusive: News On The 1982 Remake Of The Thing
Today to I spoke to director Marc Abraham whose new movie, “Flash of Genius” is coming out soon. But he's not known for directing. he's know for producing. One of his future projects is a remake of the 1982 horror classic “John Carpenter's The Thing.” I asked Marc how can you possibly top the 1982 version and whether or not it is a remake or a sequel. This was his reply: "This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive. Its going to be taking place in the same time frame."

6 Rules For Remaking John Carpenter's They Live [They Live]
Rumor has it that Strike Entertainment is talking about picking up the rights to John Carpenter's They Live. This fills me with mixed emotions, because They Live is full of great moments (like a newsstand filled with black and white subliminal messages embedded into the magazines and papers). But at the same itme, how do you recreate such cheesetastic "I came here to kick ass and chew bubblegum" lines and fight scenes? It's impossible, unless you follow these simple rules. Before everyone jumps out a

31 Days of Horror: Day 8 - In the Mouth of Madness
Any horror movie list needs to have at least one or two John Carpenter movies on. I thought about throwing Halloween on the list but that is just too simple and everyone has seen it. I’also have to say I’m a bigger fan of In the Mouth of Madness than of his other horror movies. Carpenter manages to create a modern H.P. Lovecraft classic story. In my mind it is fairly easy to create a world where a serial killer is stalking people but it is not so easy to create a terrifying descent into madness

Aliens, Criminals, and Other Carpenter Tools
John Carpenter will forever be associated with "Halloween," his brilliantly original (and profitable) 1978 horror film that helped inaugurate the modern slasher era, a movement that now includes more than a half-dozen uninspired "Halloween" sequels. But while horror is what ultimately gave Mr. Carpenter the budgetary and artistic freedom to make the films he wanted to make, his imagination has never been one-dimensional. Beginning Monday, the Brooklyn Academy of Music will launch a brief film...

The Thing remake is a prequel
We've been seeing that just about every John Carpenter property is hitting the remake chain, and The Thing is no different. We heard way back in September of 2006 that the film was being remade, and people got upset because the Carpenter version is superb, itself a remake. However even then the talk was that it would be a prequel. Today it's confirmed, and it seems we've even been given the focus of the story. It's a prequel all right, but not too far back in the past from Carpenter's The Thing.

HALLOWEEN 2 films in January
Dread Central have heard from a reporter at the 30 Years of Halloween Convention in Pasadena, CA. that producer Malek Akkad announced a January start date for HALLOWEEN 2, a direct sequel to Rob Zombie’s remake of the original 1978 John Carpenter classic. Tyler Mane, the former wrestler who played Michael as “The Shape” has already agreed to return and talks are under-way with several of the actors from the first movie. Rob Zombie though, won’t return to direct. The only rumor so

The Thing Sequel To Be A Prequel
Latino Review spoke to Producer Marc Abraham and he revealed that he and John Carpenter are still developing a sequel to “The Thing”. Only it doesn't seem to be a sequel but a prequel. "This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive. Its going to be taking place in the same time frame” and “These are the events leading up to the 1982 film.” Posted by Flicks News at 3:34 PM Labels: John Carpenter, the thing add to del.icio.

The Thing Remake Will Be A Prequel
As a huge fan of John Carpenter, Kurt Russell and Howard Hawks, The Thing is one of my favorite films. I have vague memories of rumblings about sequels and remakes, but I never knew that anything even remotely concrete was beginning to form. Well it turns out that a story is in place that sets the film before the events of John Carpenter’s film. Producer Marc Abraham had this to say to Latino Review:   “This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive. It’

New Version Of ‘The Thing’ To Be A Prequel
Latino Review is reporting that the movie will in fact be a prequel and will fill us in on what happened leading up to the events of the 1982 movie, which starred Kurt Russell. While speaking to newbie director Marc Abraham, LR asked if this would be a remake or a sequel and this was the simple answer they got: This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive…. Its going to be taking place in the same time frame. Pretty straight-forward and pretty smart if you ask me. There’

'The Thing' Remake To Be Prequel?
In a recent interview, producer Marc Abraham revealed something extremely interesting about his rehash of the 1982 alien flick The Thing (itself a remake of the acclaimed 1950s screen thriller, based on John W. Campbell’s classic short story “Who Goes There?”). According to Abraham the film will not be a remake nor will it be a sequel attempting to reboot the franchise. “This is more of a prequel than a sequel,” said Abraham in an interview with Latino Review. “It’s going to be taking place

Movie Review - 'Flash of Genius'
Flash of Genius Starring Greg Kinnear, Lauren Graham, and Alan Alda Directed by Marc Abraham Rated PG-13 Every time The Insider is on cable, I'll watch whatever is left of it by the time I channel surf by. It seems that it's been on more in the last six months than it was previously, or maybe I'm just lucky enough to catch it. The reason, I think, that I sit through a three-hour movie I've seen over a dozen times is because so many things about it are compelling. Russell Crowe's first Americ

The Thing Returns For The First Time [The Thing]
If your enjoyment of John Carpenter's remake of The Thing has always been hampered by the fact that you didn't know anything about the origins of the shapechanging killer alien, then relax; help is on the way, courtesy of an upcoming prequel to the 1982 classic. Responding to a question about whether the movie was, as rumored, a remake, Abraham said, This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive. Its g

'Flash of Genius' tries to capture Robert Kearns' essence
For "Flash of Genius" star Greg Kinnear and director Marc Abraham, getting the essence of Robert Kearns on film was job one, even if it meant making a few compromises on the script and shooting locales. Abraham says that when he first read about Kearns' decades-long odyssey in a New Yorker magazine profile, he knew he'd have to change the time line. "We didn't want Greg in stunt makeup where he had no hair, where he had to age 30 years," says Abraham. "It just detracts from the story. It didn'

Greg Kinnear's 'Genius' offers a clearer view of justice
