'Who knows how I'm holding it all together?' asks Kate Winslet on her much-admired figure | Mail Online
She's an Oscar-winning actress revered for her beauty and talent - so it comes as no surprise that Kate Winslet is happier than ever.

GRAVITY GIVES WAY TO HOPE FOR THIS DIRECTOR
Sam Mendes usually directs heavy- duty gritty spitty Oscar-type mov ies. Unlike his last outing "Revolu tionary Road" starring the missus, Kate Winslet , his newie "Away We Go" is not his usual suicidally depressing job. It's about a 30-something couple with eccentric parents who have a baby (the couple not the parents) then schlep cross-country. So how come a happy feel-good Sam Mendes comedy?
Mendes and Winslet grace the red carpet
Sam Mendes and his wife, actress Kate Winslet, have taken to the red carpet for a screening of his latest film Away We Go.
Dressed in a black and white Stella McCartney sheath dress, Winslet posed for photos, but then took a back seat leaving Mendes in the spotlight.
Away We Go is Mendes' fifth film, and looks at the relationship between an expectant couple struggling to find a place to put down their roots and call home.

PODCAST: Allison Janney
Currently working overtime on Broadway in 9 to 5: The Musical , Emmy Award winner and Tony nominee Allison Janney ( Juno , TV's The West Wing ) can also be seen, beginning this weekend, in Away We Go . Co-written by married novelists Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida ( with whom I spoke recently ), it's the first feature from director Sam Mendes that I've liked, perhaps because it's so warm and engaging that it doesn't seem like a Sam Mendes film:

Review: Away We Go (2009) ** 1/2
Successfully amplifying their low-wattage, TV-grade charms to the big screen, John Krasinski ( The Office ) and Maya Rudolph ( Saturday Night Live ) almost manage to save Sam Mendes’ latest film from himself. Though they ultimately fail, one at least looks forward to seeing more of them on the big screen. Mr. Mendes on the other hand has just about worn out his welcome.

, an incisive look at suburban malaise that in addition to netting multiple Oscar nominations, earned him a reputation for being a keen if not altogether optimistic observer of human nature. Ten years later he's virtually cemented that pessimistic point of view with films like

Revolutionary Road

Why The Runaways Biopic Could Rock
Michael Shannon's scene-stealing performances over the years finally earned him a well-deserved Oscar nod for last year's supporting role in

the biopic about the most cherry-bombin' girl group ever, the Runaways.

Directors downsize their productions' scales
Sam Mendes compares the experience of making a small film to that of driving a small car. "It's more maneuverable and more fun. It may not take you as far, but you'll certainly enjoy the ride," said the director, who's opted this season to break away from his regular film diet of movie-star-heavy melodramas (" Revolutionary Road ," "Road to Perdition") for his new, quirky Road movie "Away We Go," a picaresque comedy about a young couple ( John...
Away She Goes: John Krasinski Talks to Maya Rudolph
We wrote the script with Maya and John in mind,” says writer and editor Vendela Vida, who, alongside her husband, Pulitzer Prize finalist Dave Eggers, created the screenplay for director Sam Mendes’ Away We Go , a quietly soulful meditation on love and family. “Still, it was sort of surreal when they were actually cast.” The film’s stars, John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph, weren’t exactly obvious choices to play Burt and Verona, a young, indivisible couple...

The Most Iconic Fashion Moments on the Silver Screen
Who can forget the little black dress and mammoth shades made famous by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's? Or how about the white halter-style dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in The Seven Year Itch? Certainly not Female First who named those looks the most iconic in the history of cinema. Her death - after a bout of pneumonia - comes just a month after stars of epic movie Titanic Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, and director James Cameron stepped in to pay her private nursing home fees.
Her parents had planned a new life in Wichita, Kansas,...
'Revolutionary Road' doesn't live up to Yates' novel
Revolutionary Road is a small-spirited depiction of a golden couple in mid-1950s America. As they crash on their own failed hopes and dreams and fall into the trap of a comfortable, convenient life, you wonder whether you'd keep watching were it not for Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet . The movie never draws you into their summer of discontent. Revolutionary Road isn't just a failed literary adaptation. It's a failure of the worst kind: It doesn't even make you want to read Richard...
